Key Assessments

Your child will receive a standards-based report card that indicates how well your child is progressing in various skills and on various subject area standards. There are several assessments that have been identified as critical for monitoring student performance.

Learning to read is a key focus in the early elementary grades. As a kindergartner, your child will take several assessments that will help teachers design and deliver effective small group instruction in reading.

• The Developmental Reading Assessment, 2nd Edition (DRA2) measures reading proficiency by observing, recording, and evaluating how well students read aloud and understand what they have read.
• The Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS) measures knowledge of important literacy fundamentals like how well students know the alphabet, letter sounds, phonics, spelling, word recognition, and can match spoken words to written words as they read.
