Jeff Barba, ModeratorFive more minutes folks to submit any questions about Green Run Collegiate.7:56:48 PM
Barbara WinnYes. All students are required to take Algebra I prior to entering 9th grade. We do offer summer school for Algebra I.7:52:31 PM
laurenwinnAnd do you offer a special algebra 1 program for grc candidates? 7:51:47 PM
George Coker (Math Teacher)Dedication. Every single staff member here at GRC is always looking to improve their craft, and are always focused on improving student achievement. We are developing a strong course of study that connects the contents together, such as a research paper (English) on the impact of climate change (Science) through the lens of writing political policy (Government) that uses statitical analysis (Math) to support their position). This is just one example of how we at Green Run Collegiate look at engaging students with real world issues. 7:51:44 PM
laurenwinnDo I have to take Algebra 1 since i haven't taken it yet? 7:51:05 PM
HaydenAs a student, I think that not only having the ability to laugh and have fun with your students, but also being able to sit down and clearly explain the topics at hand are key qualities of a GRC teacher.7:49:27 PM
Kelly B.As a parent who has always been actively involved in my child's education, I just wanted to add that I've been particularly impressed with the quality of the teachers and staff at GRC. Students are treated with respect, and teachers are clearly devoted and talented educators who genuinely care about the success and well-being of their students. Students are given every opportunity to succeed and are encouraged at all times to give their best efforts while being provided will all the tools necessary to do so.7:46:10 PM
Barbara WinnGRC classes are separate from GRHS classes; however students mingle in the hallways, have lunch together, attend special events with each other and participate in sport and clubs together. GRC has a strong partnership with GRHS.7:43:14 PM
Barbara WinnGeorge...what makes a great GRC teacher?7:40:48 PM

CMThank you to all who have answered my questions, I appreciate it. I believe this is a great addition to CVBPS because it gives all students wanting to apply a fair chance. I believe sometimes tests can cause such anxiety in childrent which doesn't allow them to do their best. Good night and have a great evening everyone.7:33:01 PM
laurenwinnWhy was Green Run selected as the host school for this specific program?7:32:39 PM
Barbara WinnYes. GRC will have its own graduation with no less celebration than any other high school in Virginia Beach.7:31:05 PM
laurenwinnIs the graduation ceremony separate from the regular students? 7:30:03 PM
Barbara WinnBullying is never tolerated. IB promotes diversity and acceptance of those that are different from us. We absolutely follow School Board Policy in regard to any act of bullying.7:28:50 PM
Barbara WinnGRC students are represented on all major sports teams. Girls are also just as involved with both sports, cheerleading and Step. Clubs are also a great attraction to students. They absolutely love Art Club.7:27:21 PM
CMI know this is a serious question but what is your policy on bullying, is it aligned with those of other VBPS?7:26:25 PM
George Coker (Math Teacher)Students are encouraged to particpate in any sports or clubs at Green Run. I run National Honor Society at Green Run and can not wait to see some GRC students join the ranks. Only 2 weeks ago, we had 5 of our GRC students take part in the leadership workshop run by the Green Run SCA, and we hope to build a strong partnership between the schools.7:25:15 PM
HaydenYes, GRC students are able to participate in all sports and clubs along with the Green Run High students.7:24:38 PM
laurenwinnThank you Barbra Winn 7:24:07 PM
Barbara WinnOne word comes to mind regarding GRC students--involved. I think they would stay at school 24 hours a day if we let them~7:24:04 PM
CMThe students are able to participant in all activities as students do who attend GRHS correct?7:21:05 PM
George Coker (Math Teacher)chosse to leave7:20:13 PM
George Coker (Math Teacher)Once you enroll in GRC, you keep your spot through graduation unless you choose leave.7:19:47 PM
CMWill they 9th graders need to reapply next year to go to the 10th grade?7:18:37 PM
Kelly B.Good evening, CM! Yes, once the lottery names have been drawn, the parents and students will be invited to a Registration Night at the school. You'll complete your registration paperwork at that time. 7:16:57 PM
Barbara WinnThe International Baccalareate (IB) is comprised of four programs--grades K-12 which lead to a world-class education. GRC will offer 3 of the programs to include the Middle Years Program (9-10), the Diploma Program (11-12), or the IBCC or career related certificate (11-12). Princess Anne High School and Green Run Collegiate will offer many of the same courses; some courses will be unique to each school. IB students from around the world sit for the same exams within a 24 hour window. 7:16:51 PM
laurenwinncan u offer explanation of an ib school?7:15:24 PM
George Coker (Math Teacher)GRC has many unique opertunities that give students a great ammount of flexability. We already offer unique classes like design technology that introduces students to the engineering and design cycle. Some students will even be allowed to go to the Advanced Technology Center while attending GRC. 7:15:23 PM
CMOnce a child receives an acceptance letter, will they need to come to the school to complete addtional paperwork, etc?7:14:52 PM
laurenwinntu Kelly B. 7:13:34 PM
Kelly B.Good evening, Lauren! I'm the parent of a current GRC student, so I can offer you what i see as the advantages. GRC offers a challenging IB curriculum to all students. They also mentor every student and teach them valuable study skills that will assist them not only in high school, but will also serve them well in college and beyond. Some course selections are unique to this school, such as the Design Technology course that gives students a chance to learn computer design and then manufacture on a 3-D printer. Students are also offered lots of opportunities to participate in a variety of field trips and community service projects. 7:12:34 PM
Barbara WinnGRC prepares students for the rigor of college through the IB Program and through AVID. Students have many options in course offerings, many of which offer college credit if students receive a qualifying score. GRC promotes concept-based learning through relevant learning experiences. Students are challenged and encouraged to take appropriate risks.7:12:09 PM
CMIf we aren't able to attend on the 17th, notification wil be sent out correct? What is the process from that point? 7:11:40 PM
laurenwinnWhat is an IB program 7:10:59 PM
amymeaderHow is this program different from Princess Anne High's IB program. Are the classes less rigorous? 7:10:21 PM
Jeff Barba, ModeratorGreen Run Collegiate is looking to enroll its second freshman classfor the 2014/15 school year. GRC will enroll up to 125 freshmen and there are a few seats available in next year's 10th grade class.7:09:40 PM
CMGood Evening. I have a couple of questions. If we are able to attend on the 17th and my child's name is called, do the have the option like as the other academies do to decline? 7:09:11 PM
laurenwinnwhat are some advantages of this program? 7:07:54 PM
Barbara WinnStudents have many options in Virginia Beach. Students may choose to attend their home school, an academy if accepted or Green Run Collegiate.7:07:45 PM
Jeff Barba, ModeratorDon't be bashful folks, this is your chance to ask all of those questions that you may have regarding this great program. Plus, there are lovely parting gifts for those who partcipate.7:06:16 PM
CMGood Evening. I have a couple of questions. If we are able to attend on the 17th and my child's name is called, do the have the option like as the other academies do to decline? 7:06:02 PM
