School Board approves calendars for 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years |
|
At its Nov. 21 meeting, the School Board of the City of Virginia Beach approved school calendars for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years. The School Board approved two school calendars at once in order to provide staff and families as much planning time as possible. Both the 2018-19 and 2019-20 calendars include 181 instructional days for students, and they also include two designated professional learning days for staff (one during the teacher in-service week and the second on Columbus Day of each year). In both calendars, Veterans Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents' Day are all observed, and, as part of winter break, families have at least three days off ahead of the Christmas holiday to help for travel. As in years past, makeup days needed for inclement weather or other unscheduled school closures will be designated by the superintendent with the preference being the use of staff days and holidays. The school division will send out a digital copy of these calendars to all staff and families tonight via an Alert Now message. In addition, the calendars can be accessed online at vbschools.com. |
