VBCPS continues full-day kindergarten implementation, announces 12 new schools

As part of its multiyear implementation plan to transition all its elementary schools from half-day to full-day kindergarten (FDK) models, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) announced the following schools will move to full-day programs for the 2018-19 school year: Alanton, Arrowhead, Indian Lakes, Kempsville, Kempsville Meadows, King's Grant, Landstown, Ocean Lakes, Providence, Salem, Windsor Woods and Woodstock. These 12 elementary schools will join the 23 schools across the division that currently have full-day kindergarten classes.

2018-19 will be the second year of a phased-in expansion of full-day kindergarten in Virginia Beach using local funds as well as federal Title I grants. The additional FDK sites were selected based on information such as current sections of pre-kindergarten and extended day kindergarten (EDK), literacy benchmark data, socioeconomic data and other unique site factors.

Parents of rising kindergarteners enrolled at the 12 identified schools will receive separate communication from school principals in the coming weeks about the program, school hours and student schedules.
