Community invited to learn more about upcoming school construction projects

Virginia Beach City Public Schools invites the community to attend any one of four upcoming meetings to weigh in on possible scenarios regarding the funding and timeline for the next 15 schools up for modernization or replacement.

The meetings will be held March 7 at Old Donation School, March 8 at Tallwood High School, March 14 at Kellam High School, and March 15 at Great Neck Middle School. Each meeting will be from 6-7:30 p.m. and information shared at each meeting will be the same.

At these meetings, attendees will learn which 15 schools are scheduled for modernization or replacement based on age, physical condition and type of building. These three factors are what the community deemed as the most important criteria through a survey conducted in November. Attendees will also learn more about the current funding for the division's Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and weigh in on potential funding scenarios for the future.

Members of the Long-Range Facilities Master Plan Steering Committee, which is comprised of students, school division administrators, city leaders and community organizations as well as representatives from Cooperative Strategies, the professional demographics firm assisting with this planning, will be present at all community meetings to help answer any questions.

Those unable to attend the community meetings will still have an opportunity to give their input through a survey that will be sent to families March 8 and also will be available on the school division's website vbschools.com.

For more information about the process, visit the school division's Long-Range Facilities Master Plan page on vbschools.com.
