VBCPS projects 100 percent accreditation for second consecutive year

Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) is projecting 100 percent of its 82 testing sites will earn full state accreditation for a second consecutive year. This projection is based on the Virginia Department of Education's revised system for calculating school accreditation which goes into effect in the 2018-2019 school year.

"Everyone who is part of VBCPS should be immensely proud that 100 percent of our schools are projected to receive accreditation once again," said VBCPS Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence. "What is perhaps even more significant is that this achievement was earned under the state's new system, which requires schools to show continuous improvement and to demonstrate success in closing achievement gaps. In other words, making sure that all students - regardless of background, economic status or other challenges - are academically successful."

VBCPS will release more detailed information about specific school successes after the VDOE releases its preliminary data to divisions Aug. 1.
