VBCPS workshop invites families to learn about navigating youth mental health care

All Virginia Beach City Public Schools are invited to attend an "Understanding and Advocating for Your Child's Mental Health Care" workshop Sept. 26 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Bayside Middle School, 965 Newtown Road in Virginia Beach.

Attendees will learn about diagnosis, treatment options, navigating the process of accessing services and insurance coverage. In addition, the session will also cover services to help youth with addiction, whether it's a result of prescription medications, drugs or alcohol.

Since approximately 25 percent of the school division's population is comprised of military families, presenters will also discuss navigating mental health care within the armed forces' insurance program.

Presenters will be professionals from the school division's Office of Student Support Services and licensed social workers from the Barry Robinson Center, one of the area's premier behavioral health centers for children.

For more information, contact the VBCPS Office of Student Support Services at 757-263-1980.
