VBCPS invites community to take survey to help prioritize areas for upcoming strategic plan

Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) invites the community to take a survey that will help identify priorities for the division's strategic plan that will be in place from 2020-2025. A link to the survey, called VBCPS Communitywide Strategic Planning Survey, is posted on vbschools.com. The last day to take the survey is March 8.

Survey participants will be asked to rate from "critical" to "not at all important" the skills and abilities that the division should focus on so that students are successful after graduation. In addition, respondents will be asked to rate from "essential" to "not a priority" ways in which VBCPS can support students in acquiring those skills and abilities.

"It's important to hear from our community what they want students to experience in their local schools," said VBCPS Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence. "This input will help set the foundation for the demands of postgraduate success and what our stakeholders see as necessary for our students to thrive in today's colleges, workplaces and communities.

Results will be shared with the strategic planning committee comprised of parents, students, school division staff and representatives from the military, business and higher education community. Their job is to take all of the community's input and develop a strategic framework that will be presented to the School Board for initial consideration this summer.

The current strategic framework, Compass to 2020, which set the future direction from 2015-2020, was comprised of goals and numerous strategies focused on creating personalized learning opportunities for students, fostering their social and emotional development, challenging them to achieve high standards of academic achievement and creating a culture of growth and excellence. That work helped VBCPS students achieve a string of unprecedented successes, including higher participation and soaring scores in Advanced Placement and dual enrollment courses; SAT results that continue to outperform the region and the nation; and the division's highest-ever graduation rate.
