Virginia Beach schools honored
with state VIP awards

For the 12th consecutive year, Governor Ralph Northam and the state Board of Education (BOE) have named Virginia Beach schools as Virginia Index of Performance (VIP) honorees. These awards are presented to schools or divisions in three different categories for advanced student learning and achievement.

"This is a great honor for this year's awardees and for all Virginia Beach schools that have earned this distinction over the years," said Virginia Beach City Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence. "Across the division, our schools put students first. Our students are challenged and cared for, and our educators know how to build relationships and meet students where they are, which is critical to helping them succeed."

Virginia Beach schools recognized in the Board of Education Excellence category were Linkhorn Park Elementary School, Old Donation School, Princess Anne Elementary School, North Landing Elementary School, Tallwood Elementary School, Thoroughgood Elementary School and Trantwood Elementary School. This honor recognizes schools that met all state and federal accountability benchmarks and made significant progress toward goals for increased student achievement and expanded educational opportunities set by the BOE.

Earning the BOE Distinguished Achievement Award recognition were Great Neck Middle School, Green Run Collegiate, John B. Dey Elementary School, Ocean Lakes High School, Princess Anne Middle School and Three Oaks Elementary School. These honorees have met all state and federal benchmarks and made progress toward the academic goals established by the governor and the BOE.

A total of 270 schools and nine divisions were honored statewide. More information about the VIP recognition program is on the Virginia Department of Education's website.
