All VBCPS high schools earn top student
council honor for third year in a row

For the third consecutive year, all Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) comprehensive high schools earned the National Gold Council of Excellence Award from the National Association of Student Councils (NASC).

This award recognizes student councils for their records of leadership, service and activities that improve the school and community.

VBCPS represents more than 50% of the schools in Virginia on the list of awardees.

"This recognition would not be possible without the efforts of our remarkable student leaders and staff advisers," said VBCPS Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence. "Year after year, our school division provides the guidance that trains and nurtures the future leaders of our schools, our businesses and our communities."

All VBCPS high schools received the gold level award, which is the higher of two designations given by the NASC. In order to earn this honor, a school's student council must have successfully demonstrated the highest levels of leadership while meeting a variety of criteria, including completion of a "global citizenship project" that encouraged students to better understand their roles and opportunities as involved and informed citizens.

Corporate Landing Middle School received the NASC's National Council of Excellence Award, one of only three middle schools in the entire state to be so honored.
