Ocean Lakes High School senior |
Ocean Lakes High School senior Nathan Luksik earned the highest possible composite score of 36 on the ACT college admissions test. According to ACT, on average, less than one-tenth of 1 percent of the nation’s test takers earn this top score. The ACT, which is the leading college readiness assessment accepted by all four-year colleges and universities in the United States, tests students in English, mathematics, reading and science. Each section is scored on a scale from 1-36 and a student’s composite score is the average of the four scores. Luksik, who is enrolled in the Mathematics and Science Academy at Ocean Lakes High School, has applied to Duke, University of California Berkley, University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, Yale, Princeton and the University of Virginia. He plans to pursue a double major in computer engineering and economics with a concentration in finance. “We’re extremely proud of Nathan on this exceptional achievement,” said Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) Superintendent Aaron Spence. “We, as a division, hold the highest academic expectations for all of our students. Certainly, this accomplishment speaks volumes about the excellent teaching that is taking place in our schools as well as our students’ ability to rise to the rigorous challenges they will face in college or other post-secondary education.” Last school year, two VBCPS students, Nicolette Pember and Angela Tang-Tan, were among only 2,235 out of 2.1 million class of 2016 seniors nationwide (less than one-tenth of 1 percent) who earned a perfect ACT score. Luksik took the exam in October and received his score in November. |
