The Center for Digital Education has named Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) one of the nation's best digital school districts, awarding VBCPS a top-ten ranking in its annual Digital School Districts Survey.

All U.S. public school districts are eligible to participate in the survey, and VBCPS was ranked 10th among school districts with populations of 12,000 or more students. According to the Center for Digital Education, "rankings are awarded to the school boards/districts that most fully implement technology benchmarks in the evolution of digital education, as represented in the survey questions."

Among the programs that make VBCPS a leader with respect to technology is its Digital Learning Anchor School initiative, which serves as a pilot for a divisionwide digital 1:1 technology program and involves a cadre of schools that study best practices with respect to pedagogy and device implementation. Additionally, the division's citywide STEM Trifecta involves hundreds of students who put their technological skills to the test working through challenges related to robotics and cybersecurity. Students may pursue more advanced studies of technology by attending programs at the division's Advanced Technology Center or Governor's STEM and Technology Academy.

"Teaching, learning and technology are inextricably linked in education, and we are committed to leveraging technology to personalize and create flexible learning opportunities for today's digital learners," said VBCPS Superintendent Aaron Spence. "We appreciate the recognition of our leadership in this area and will continue to encourage the innovative use of technology to enhance student learning and prepare them for success in future employment or post-secondary educational opportunities."

VBCPS will be recognized as a Digital School Districts Survey honoree at a reception during the National Association of School Boards (NSBA) Annual Conference, March 25-27 in Denver, Colorado.
