VB Technical & Career Education Center
celebrating 50 years

The Virginia Beach Technical & Career Education Center (Tech Center, 2925 N Landing Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456) is celebrating its 50th anniversary with an open house reunion on Wednesday, March 29, from 6-8 p.m., for all students and staff both past and present. The Tech Center opened its doors in September 1972 to provide career-training opportunities for students in grades 11 and 12. Over the past 50 years, the Tech Center has maintained focus on career preparation and employability for its students and continues to evolve to meet the demands of the ever-changing workforce. Having served more than 40,000 students, the Tech Center currently has 682 students enrolled in programs for the 2022-23 school year.

The Tech Center serves students from all 11 VBCPS high schools, Green Run Collegiate, Renaissance Academy, and some adult students enrolled in the Practical Nursing Program. Currently, the center is home to 23 one-and two-year technical credentialed programs. Areas of study include: Air Conditioning, Refrigeration & Heating; Auto Body & Paint Technology; Automotive Service Technology; Carpentry; Construction Technology; Cosmetology; Culinary Arts; Dental Assisting; Early Childhood Education; Electricity; Electronics/Robotics; Landscape Design & Management; Legal Systems Administration; Licensed Practical Nursing; Masonry; Medical Systems Administration; Outdoor Power Equipment; Pharmacy Technician; Plumbing; Public Safety; Television Communications & Production; Turf Management; and Welding. Welding and Early Childhood Education students also have the option to earn college credit through dual enrollment opportunities with Tidewater Community College.

The Tech Center is also home of the Division's Vocational Evaluation Center. Vocational evaluation is a process to assist students with disabilities, at-risk students, or any other interested students identify and explore their unique career interests, aptitudes, and skills, and formulate short and long-term career goals.

Since 2002, Tech Center students have earned more than 17,000 industry credentials. Through strong partnerships with business and industry, and the broad combination of educational opportunities made available through the Tech Center experience, students are leaving "Future Ready."
