- Members of a gang in Brooklyn, New York made the mistake of not knowing that the person whose friend request they accepted was a cop. The police officer used Facebook to track the gang’s plans, and in the process, broke up a year-long string of burglaries, sending 14 members of the gang to jail. Read.
- A 15 year-old high school student was arrested in Santa Clarita, California for threatening online to go on a shooting rampage at his school. Read.
- A 14 year-old Dutch teen sent a tweet to American Airlines, saying “Hello my name’s Ibrahim and I’m from Afghanistan. I’m part of Al Qaida and on June 1st I’m going to do something really big bye.” American Airlines responded with “Sarah, we take these threats very seriously. Your IP address and details will be forwarded to security and the FBI.” She eventually turned herself into police where she was charged with posting a false or alarming announcement. Read.
