The elementary school years, kindergarten through fifth grade, are a critical time for the academic, social, and physical growth of your child. At the beginning of their elementary school journey students learn the basic building blocks of literacy and numeracy to support the acquisition of more sophisticated skills in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. A focus on critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and citizenship (what we call the �Five Cs�) will also be evident throughout your child�s educational experience in Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Beginning in elementary school, students will be introduced to a wide variety of careers and career pathways and engage in career-related experiential learning activities. Teachers and school counselors will also work to support your child�s social emotional development.
